Data Warehouse Analyst Sr - Richard Randolph

Data Management & Analytics (formerly Business Intelligence) in UIT’s University Support Services is pleased to announce that Richard Randolph has been hired as a Data Warehouse Analyst Sr. Randolph reports to Director Brian Harris and works as a part of the Data Engineering staff.

Randolph previously served as a Business Data Analyst for University of Utah Health. In that role he built data warehouse queries in Oracle SQL, designed and managed Tableau Reports, automated reports in Excel, and created queries in PeopleSoft.  Before he worked for University of Utah Health, Randoph served as a Strategy and Operations Data Analyst at Vivint.

In his new role, Randolph will focus on developing and supporting the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes to support analytical applications across student, finance, human resources, and facilities data environments. He will be responsible for developing functional specifications to fulfill the data requirements for delivering comprehensive business intelligence solutions, data mart design, and reporting and analytics.  He will also support customer data needs and requests, often involving maintaining large, complex data sets that meet business requirements, and participate in all phases of data warehouse implementation.

Randolph holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Management from the Utah Valley University and an Associates of Science in Science from Salt Lake Community College. He is fluent in Spanish.

New Business Data Analyst - Emerson Pratt

Data Management & Analytics (formerly Business Intelligence) in UIT’s University Support Services is pleased to announce that Emerson Pratt has been hired as a Business Data Analyst. Pratt reports to Director Brian Harris and works as a part of the Data Engineering staff.

Pratt previously served as a Curricular Systems Analyst for the Curriculum Management and Academic Planning office here at the University of Utah. In that role he administered all curriculum management software at the university and published the university’s annual general catalog containing the curriculum for every program and course offered.

In his new role, Pratt will support the University Data Warehouse and associated tools/analytical applications across Student, Finance, Human Resources, and Facilities/Ancillary Services environments. He will be a primary contact for end user support, to include trouble shooting and requirements gathering for enhancements and modification to the data warehouse. Pratt will also assist in writing functional specifications to fulfill the data requirements for delivering comprehensive business intelligence solutions and working with data engineers to build those solutions. 

Pratt holds a Bachelors of Geography from the U and expects a Master of Information Systems from the U in August 2023.

 

2nd Quarter 2023

DM&A Team has Two Data Warehouse Job Openings

The Data Management and Analytics (DM&A) team is searching for two data professionals to join it as a Data Warehouse Analyst Sr and a Business Data Analyst. The responsbilities of the DM&A team include establishing standards governing data use, storage, and quality; creating various reports, including but not limited to descriptive and predictive analysis; providing tools and software for analyzing data; and working with University staff to help improve decisions and optimize performance. 

The DM&A team is temporarily using a hybrid remote/in-office model and works in the office two days per week. These positions are not eligible for 100% remote work.  The DM&A team is part of University Information Technology ( UIT ) Data Management & Analytics, which reports to the Deputy CIO.

Data Warehouse Analyst Sr Job Summary

The Data Warehouse Analyst position focuses on developing and supporting the Enterprise Data Warehouse and Extract, Transform and Load ( ETL ) processes to support analytical applications across our student, finance, human resources, and facilities/ancillary services environments. This position will be responsible for developing functional specifications to fulfill the data requirements for delivering comprehensive business intelligence solutions, data mart design, and reporting and analytics. Strong data modeling, SQL skills, and knowledge of 3rd party integrations is required.

David R. Howell

New Data Warehouse Architect – David R. Howell

Data Management & Analytics (formerly Business Intelligence) in UIT’s University Support Services is pleased to announce that David R. Howell has been hired as a Data Warehouse Architect. Howell reports to Director Brian Harris and works specifically with the VPR office, and in turn the ORIS Office.

Howell previously served as the IT Manager for the Office of Global Engagement here at the University of Utah. In that role he managed and supported IT systems, administered databases, developed custom applications, and created the Global U Inventory, an online searchable database of all global activities at the university.

In his new role, he will be responsible for development of data movement, maintenance of the metadata layer and designing of ETL jobs and data models, as well as daily maintenance of technical and business requirements for the entire Data Management life cycle. He will also lead data warehouse and/or business intelligence initiatives, coordinate data integrity and migration activities, and resolve technical issues.

Howell holds Bachelor of Political Science from the U and a Master of Information Systems from DePaul University.
